I was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. I attended Central High School and then matriculated to Villanova University where I ran track. In 1983 I was the NCAA 440 yard Indoor Champion. In addition to my athletic accomplishments, I was also a Rhodes Scholarship Finalist in 1983.

I attended Johns Hopkins School of Medicine before training in General Surgery at Thomas Jefferson University Hospital in Philadelphia. I then completed my Transplant Fellowship at the University of Wisconsin.

I have been an Abdominal Transplant Surgeon at the University of Alabama at Birmingham (UAB) since 1997. I specialize in kidney and pancreas transplantation, pediatric kidney transplantation and vascular access.
